Privacy Policy

Effective date: October 23, 2026

This policy explains what information Capital of Quantum collects when you visit capitalofquantum.com, how we use it, and the choices you have. We collect as little as we need to run the site and to respond to people who contact us. We do not sell your information.

Who we are

Capitalofquantum.com is operated by Discovery District Management Company LLC, doing business as Capital of Quantum (“Capital of Quantum,” “we,” “us”), based in College Park, Maryland.

Information we collect

Information you give us. If you use our contact form, we collect:

  • your name;
  • your email address;
  • your organization;
  • your phone number, if you provide it;
  • your message.

If you email us directly, we receive your email address and whatever you include in your message.

Information collected automatically. When you visit the site, we and our service providers collect basic technical information:

  • the pages you view and how long you stay;
  • the website or search that brought you here;
  • your browser and device type;
  • your approximate location (city or region), based on your IP address.

Google Analytics collects this information through cookies (see Cookies and analytics below). Our web host also keeps standard server logs, including IP addresses, for security and to keep the site running.

We do not knowingly collect sensitive information, such as financial, health or government ID information. Please do not send it through the contact form.

How we use information

We use the information we collect to:

  • respond to your inquiry and follow up on it;
  • connect you with companies, researchers, government programs or other partners you ask about;
  • understand how people find and use the site, so we can improve it;
  • keep the site secure and working;
  • report on the initiative’s reach, using only totals that do not identify anyone (for example, the number of visitors in a month);
  • meet legal obligations.

We do not use your information for advertising, and we do not sell or rent it.

How we share information

We share information only in these cases:

  • Partners you ask to reach. If your inquiry asks to connect with a partner, we may share your contact details and message with that partner. Our partners include the University of Maryland and its affiliated organizations, Maryland state agencies and companies in the Capital of Quantum ecosystem. We will not do this without your request or agreement.
  • Service providers. Companies that help us run the site, such as our web host, WordPress plugin providers and Google Analytics, process information for us under their own terms and only to provide their services.
  • Legal requirements. We may disclose information if the law requires it, such as in response to a valid legal request, or to protect the rights, safety or security of Capital of Quantum, our visitors or others.
  • Organizational changes. If responsibility for the site moves to another organization that carries on the initiative, information may be transferred to that organization under this policy.

Cookies and analytics

Cookies are small files that a website stores in your browser. We use them only to measure how the site is used. We do not use advertising or tracking cookies.

We use Google Analytics, a web analytics service provided by Google LLC. It uses cookies to count visits and to tell us which pages are viewed, how visitors arrive at the site, and their approximate region. Google Analytics reports this information to us as totals. It does not give us your name or contact details, and we do not send it any. Google processes this data under its own terms and privacy policy. To learn more, see How Google uses information from sites or apps that use our services.

We also use Google Search Console to see which searches lead people to the site. Search Console does not place cookies on your device.

We keep Google Analytics data for up to 14 months. We have not enabled data sharing with Google for its own product purposes.

Your choices

  • Block or delete cookies. Most browsers let you refuse or delete cookies in their settings. The site works without them.
  • Opt out of Google Analytics. Install Google’s opt-out browser add-on.
  • Use the contact form or not. The form is optional. You can reach us by email instead, or not at all.
  • Do Not Track. Browsers’ “Do Not Track” signals have no common standard, so the site does not currently respond to them. The options above still work.

How long we keep information

We keep contact form submissions and related emails for up to 3 years after our last contact with you, unless the law requires longer. We delete submissions sooner once we no longer need them. Analytics data is kept for the period stated above.

How we protect information

The site uses encrypted connections (HTTPS). Access to contact form submissions is limited to Capital of Quantum staff who need it. No website is completely secure, but we take reasonable steps to protect what you share with us.

Your rights

You can ask us to:

  • tell you what information we hold about you;
  • correct it;
  • delete it;
  • stop contacting you.

To make a request, email info@capitalofquantum.com. We will respond within 45 days. Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights under state or other law, and we will honor them where they apply.

Children

The site is meant for businesses, researchers and the public, not for children. We do not knowingly collect information from children under 13. If you believe a child has sent us information, contact us and we will delete it.

Links to other sites

The site links to other websites, including our LinkedIn page, partner organizations and news coverage. Their own privacy policies apply when you visit them.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy. When we do, we will post the new version on this page and change the effective date at the top.
